Veteran actress Betsy Palmer had starred in many movie and tv roles during her long and storied career, but the role that would follow her until the end was none other than that of Mrs Pamela Voorhees, the iconic villain in the classic 1980 slasher Friday the 13th. Ironically, Palmer only took the now legendary part because she needed the money to purchase a new car…and how fortunate for all fans of horror that she did.
Tragically the beloved actress passed away of natural causes on Friday, May 29th at a Connecticut hospice care center at the age of 88. She is survived by a daughter and by the millions of horror fans to whom Ms Palmer taught that a villainous woman could be just as deadly as any man.
Here in her own words is Palmer talking about Friday the 13th:
Goodbye Mrs Voorhees, you were a class act and you will be missed.
