Wes Craven, the visionary director of such horror classics as The Last House on the Left (1972), The Hills Have Eyes (1977) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), has passed away today, tragically losing his battle with brain cancer.
Like his legions of fans across the globe, I am shocked and deeply saddened by this terrible loss and as a lifelong horror fan I can barely even find the words to express my heartbreak at the loss of one of the greatest horror filmmakers of our time.
Survived by his wife Iya and two grown children, Craven will also be mourned by countless horror fans, many of whom fell in love with the genre due to Wes Craven’s stellar work.
Please join me in saying a tearful goodbye to a true Master of his craft. Rest in Peace Mr. Craven, the horror landscape which you helped to shape will now forever be poorer for your loss.
